After winning the division title in 2004 the Braves fell to last in the division in 2005. Offseason moves to acquire David Ortiz, Stephen Drew and Jake Peavy created great dividends. Josh Beckett had an outstanding year prior to tearing tendons in his arm and going on the DL. Jaret Wright was pushing Beckett for the top starting position when he also went down. The Braves went into the playoffs banged up, and without their two top pitchers, but division champions. They managed to win the conference series over an excellent Mets team before going down in the NL championship series to the powerful Dragons. In 2007 the Braves won it all. They cruised to a second division championship and upset the powerful, but hard luck, Phillies in the division playoffs 3-2. They then defeated the San Francisco Giants 4-3 to become NL Champions. Finally they overcame the Baltimore Orioles 4-3 to claim their first NARBL World Series championship. Heroes of the World Series include Jake Peavy for pitching a shutout for seven innings in the deciding game before turning it over to the bullpen. Noah Lowery was outstanding at closer during every playoff series. Tony Clark, long forgotten in the Braves organization and laboring in AAA regained his stroke, displaced David Ortiz at first base and gave the Braves a consistent answer at first base. Stephen Drew was outstanding player during one World Series game and consistently set up bangers Wells and Glaus for big RBI hits. Catalanatto at second was MVP in a Series game and hit for power and average. Beckett wasn't his dominating self, but was consistent and always gave the Braves a chance to win. Dave Bush was the reason the Braves survived the Phillies series. Excitement in Atlanta is very high. We have a good, young team and should be a factor in the NARBL for a while. Winning the World Series is always our goal, and the Braves should be in contention every year.
